Wade Phillips Finally Fired, Two Years Too Late

Year after year we are talking about how Wade Phillips and Norv Turner have underachieved. How their teams seem so good on paper and when it comes time to put it on the field, they always start slow.

This year Phillips could not turn it around quick enough and it cost him his job.

We could kind of see the writing on the wall when he didn’t show up for film session this morning, but now it’s official.

He will be replaced on an interim basis by the Boys’ OC Jason Garrett.  The former backup QB was once seen as the heir apparent, but with as s**tty as their offense plays, it’s doubtful Cowboys fans will be too excited to start next year with him at the helm.

The Cowboys are an unbelievable 1-7, and the only they’re doing well is positioning themselves for a top draft pick next year.  Owner and GM Jerry Jones has never fired a coach mid-season before, and that’s saying something.

You know what it says?  That Wade Phillips blows as a head coach.

“An in-season coaching change is not something I’ve done before, something I was reluctant to do as recently as last week,” Jones said. “But I think what’s best for the organization and the fans is a coaching change.”

Seeing as how Wade Phillips had become the definition of a dead man walking, he’s lucky Jones didn’t make him sleep in the bed he had made for the next 2 months.

After getting blown out against the Eagles in the playoffs a couple years ago, it was clear that Phillips didn’t have what it took.  His inability to keep the TO/Romo/Witten soap opera under control showed his lack of juevos.  Even after last year, the team’s discipline was weak and his clock management and late game decisions were always questionable, if not incomprehensible.  It’s amazing he has kept his job this long.

Mr. Turner, you better get your ass into gear, or you’re next.
