If you’ve never been to Upset City, you should definitely check it out. It’s a place where a kid named Pondexter can be one of the coolest kids at the party. It’s also a place where a party school can cut the s**t and get to business when necessary. It’s a place that’s full of party crashing college kids, but the only crime is stealing victories from some underachieving higher seeded teams.
Upset City is a place that is only hoppin’ this time a year, and so far, the party is off to a great start.
Murray State started the celebration off with a little wake n’ bake early in the day by upsetting Vanderbilt on a last second shot, but that was after Old Dominion had already embarrassed the Fighting Irish, who were obviously still f**ked up from gettin’ s**tty last night for St.
Patty’s Day.
The Bobcats of Ohio University have the honor of being the biggest surprise of the tournament so far by somehow overwhelmingly beating Georgetown 97-83. Washington also shocked Marquette 80-78, which leaves the Big East with two first round exits, not to mention a Villanova team that just barely escaped Robert Morris in overtime.
The Nova/Robert Morris game was not the only match-up that went into over time. It took two overtimes for BYU to take care of Florida, and it took Wake Forest a last second jumper to come back from 7 in OT to beat Texas.
Victories by Saint Mary’s and Northern Iowa over Richmond and UNLV respectively are technically upsets as well, but when it’s David vs. David, who really gives a s**t? The residents of Upset City sure as hell don’t, that’s for sure.
So while the men and women of Upset City may only get 3 weeks to party, you better believe they are full taking advantage of it. But even though they may be out all Thursday night getting blasted, you better believe they will be prepared first thing Friday afternoon, ready to do it all over again.
