Updating Your Ass: NCAAB, Week 13

Updating Your Ass: NCAAB, Week 13Another week has passed and college basketball continues to impress.  If you thought the top teams would start to get their s**t together and play some consistent basketball … think again.

Kentucky decided to keep up the trend of being #1 for one week by losing to South Carolina on Tuesday night. Do not fret Kentucky fans; we all know that your Wildcats could beat South Carolina 9 times out of 10.

SC’s Devan Downey (9-29 FGM-A, 30 points) put on a show at the end of the game.  And by show, I mean he pulled at least five shots out of his ass that were very low percentage shots.  Luck was on the Gamecocks side Tuesday night.

This was the first full game I have watched of Kentucky all year, and even though they did not play their best, they are by far the best team I have watched.

Everyone knows who John Wall is by now, but it will not be long before his teammate DeMarcus Cousins is just as popular.  UK did come back on the weekend to show the SC game was a fluke to beat a hot Vanderbilt 85-72.

Updating Your Ass: NCAAB, Week 13The Monday night game of Georgetown vs. Syracuse provided some excitement for about 10 minutes in one of the most lopsided games I have seen this year.  Georgetown opened the game leading 14-0 then Syracuse came out of their coma and ran away with the game for a 73-56 win.

The Big East continues to be the “cluster f**k” of college ball this year.  Villanova and Syracuse are the two that have emerged as favorites for the #1 seeds in March.  Meanwhile, after it appeared Pitt and UConn were beginning to figure things out, loses this week will hurt their rankings considerably.

Michigan State continued its trend of squeaking out wins in the Big Ten, beating rival Michigan by one.  Barring a meltdown, Sparty (9-0) has pretty much locked up the regular season title, while Purdue, Wisconsin, and Ohio State are battling for the second spot. Updating Your Ass: NCAAB, Week 13

It was not a great week for the mid-major conferences as BYU, Gonzaga, and Temple all were handed a loss by much less superior conference teams.  Little ole’ Northern Iowa notched two more wins this week making them 19-2 on the year.

The week finished up with some great games.  One of them coming on Saturday night with Baylor’s huge OT win over Texas.  Texas continues to show they are not who everyone thought they were at the beginning of the season.

The second OT game of the day came from Kansas and Kansas St.  The Jayhawks put together a great team performance, with five players scoring double figures, to hang on for the clutch win.

The win that impressed me the most this week was Georgetown over Duke.  After getting run off the court by Syracuse on Monday, they came out Saturday and pulled out a great win over a solid Duke team.  After some early season struggles the Hoyas have put themselves in good position for a top three seed come March.  Although, there is still a month of the regular season and conference tournaments still to play it may be too early to tell exactly where the Hoyas will end up.

     Wednesday 7:00 PM – #21   Pitt (16-5, 6-3) @ #6 West Virginia (17-3, 6-2)

    KB,

Where is the love for Andy Bernard's Alma Mater? The Cornell Big Red are now in the top 25 and Ryan Wittman is one of the best shooters in the country. Jeff Foote was the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year last year and should repeat again, and he is more than a competent low post scorer. They could upset somebody in the tournament, and if that happens I heard that "Here Comes Trouble" will perform at halftime.

I have had my eye on Cornell and i'm sure they will get a shout out next week if they keep the stellar play up. Sienna is another team to keep an eye on. After upsetting my Buckeyes last year they are dominating their conferance and with 4 guys averaging double figures, look out sweet 16.
