Finally, the day has come for Stephon Marbury to be included in the same class as some of the NBA elite…sort of.
Thanks to his most recent championship with the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association, Stephon has his very own statuebeing erected as a special thank you for leading his team to victory. The Ducks won the championship series 4-1 over the Guangdong Hongyuan, in which Marbury averaged 33.4 points per game, 6.2 assists, and 4 rebounds.
However, those numbers were not what earned Marbury the honor of a statue. It was an internet campaign launched by hoopschina.com that rallied all of his fans together to make a push to have the structure created. Within hours, more than 1 million fans showed their support for the idea. A model has been molded out of clay and sent for production, which is said to be made of bronze and completed in the next few weeks.
But only the best get a statue. I think the least Stephon could do is get a neck tattoo of a duck to show his fans, and teammates how much he really appreciates them.
