A Rivalry May Be Developing In The NL Central [Video]

As we mentioned earlier today, Brandon Phillips had more than a few choice words for the St. Louis Cardinals recently, calling them “little bitches.”

As soon as Phillips came to the plate in the first inning, Yadier Molina starting talking smack and he and Phillips got into it.  Then the benches cleared, leading to pushing, shoving, kicking and even more pushing.

For the last 11 years, the Reds have been anything but something for the Cardinals to worry about.  So to say they were rivals before may have been true to Reds fans, but the Cardinals have had as much trouble with the Reds as Boise State has had with the WAC.

Both managers were ejected from the game, and surely some suspensions will be handed out by MLB.

Accordingly, Yadier Molina hit a homerun at his next at bat. 

The Cardinals had their way with the Reds again tonight, showing the new playoff contenders that it takes more than trash talk to win a pennant.  They backed it up with solid hitting again tonight, paired with sloppy fielding by the Reds.  The two teams are now tied for first place in the NL Central, with one more game against each other tomorrow afternoon.

Keep an eye on this new rivalry.  It’s always more interesting to have a little hate sprinkled in with your muggy August pennant chases.
