Scenario one: Let’s just say the Rams go with Sam Bradford as their number one pick as ESPN’s Adam Schefter has predicted. The franchise obviously needs a young quarterback to build around, and Bradford seems like a perfect fit to play in a dome setting.
There’s no need to throw him to the wolves in the first game — and they won’t have to — but he should be ready to take over at the helm at some point during the season.
It’s inevitable that Marc Bulger will get injured before the end of the year and Bradford would need to be prepared to step in and prove his worth.
With a freak at running back in Steven “No Charges” Jackson, all the young man out of Oklahoma would need is a big name receiver.
If the Rams can solidify their draft with a good receiver or a tight end that can step in they might be on track for a decent season in the next couple of years.
If the Rams decide to draft defensively again, then Ndamukong Suh will be there. The guy is an absolute beast and watching him go through drills at the combine just amazes you.
Suh fires off of the ball with more power and speed than any other d-lineman at the combine. Steve Spagnuolo is a defensive-minded head coach and last
year’s first round pick, former Buckeye LB James Laurinaitis is going to be a perennial pro-bowler.
With young defensive ends in Chris Long and Adam Carriker, adding Suh to the mix can only open things up for Laurinaitis to wreak havoc against offenses.
Whatever direction the Rams go, things can only improve. The Rams do have a promising young foundation and need to keep building on it.
Steve Spagnuolo needs to keep working hard and stay happy he’s not in Cleveland or Detroit.
(or Buffalo. Or Oakland.)
