The newest class of Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees were announced Sunday, led by two first ballot HOFers in Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith.
Rice was arguably (Jp14 says: “barely”) the best receiver of all time. He is the touchdown king with 208 and he made the Pro Bowl 13 times! He was one of the most valuable players on the 49ers’ squad during their incredible run during the 80′s (3 Super Bowl victories). The man was a machine. They invented Run After Catch statistic because of him. Rice had 1,000 yards receiving fourteen of his twenty years in the league. The Montana-to-Rice combo may be the best ever.
Emmitt Smith owned the 90′s. He won the rushing crown in ’91, ’92, ’93 , and ’95. In ’95, he had career highs in rushing with 1,773 yards and 25 rushing TD’s. His cowboys won the Super Bowl three times and he was on the all-decade team of the 90′s. When Troy Aikman wasn’t hitting Michael Irvin, he was handing off to one of the best running backs of all time.
It is unlikely we will see a class this strong again in years. Rice and Smith are two of the best players of all time. Rounding out the Class of 2010 are: John Randle, Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Floyd Little, and defensive genius, Dick Lebeau.
