Penny Hardaway Wants to Join Heat, Needs to Get a Clue
For everyone that assumed Lebron James going to the Miami Heat was going to flip the NBA upside down, your assumptions are being confirmed.
It has not even been two weeks since “the decision” was made, but with each passing day, the Heat continue to pick up valuable role players. I had to rewind the DVR when I heard news of the latest possible addition.
Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway has expressed interest that he would like to quit his job at the Citgo and play for Miami in the upcoming season. Can anyone say, “final desperate attempt to win a ring?” Besides old Shaq daddy, Hardaway would be the oldest active player in the league.
Apparently Penny did not get the hint when the team released him mid-season three years ago that he no longer has any value in the NBA. The Hoop Doctors posted a statement from Penny about how he could help Miami in their upcoming title run.
“Mentally I was retired and physically I was retired. I was playing recreational ball, but when the decision happened with Chris Bosh and Lebron, I felt like I could really be good in that system.”
“I can understand where Michael Jordan was coming from coming out of retirement a couple times, I can understand where Brett Favre is right now. When you still have something in the tank it’s really hard to let it go.
“I love basketball and I didn’t get a chance to finish my career the way I wanted.”
Translation: I’m a washed up ball player that would like to play five minutes a game for a team that has a chance as going down as one of the best ever. I love basketball and can’t get it through my head I am too old to play anymore.
It is a shame he did not get to show his full potential while in the NBA. Anfernee was one of the smoothest ball players I can remember watching growing up and was an All-Star at one time. Key words being “at one time.” His career was hampered with knee injuries, which led to him being bounced from team to team and my best friend in high school having to buy a new Hardaway jersey every couple of years.
At this point it does not matter who else plays for the Miami Heat because it is their championship to lose. After adding Mike Miller and Zydrunas Ilgauskas they could let Karl Malone and Charles Barkley come out of retirement to put a ring on their finger.
