Oregon Quarterback Jeremy Masoli Pleads Guilty, Suspended for 2010 Season
Oregon quarterback Jeremy Masoli has been suspended from the Oregon team for the entire 2010 season by coach Chip Kelly after pleading guilty to burglary on Friday.
“He does have a redshirt season available to him if he chooses to do that,” Kelly said.
Masoli pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal that reduced his charge from a felony to a misdemeanor. Gerrett Embry pleaded the same.
Both have been sentenced to 12 months of probation and 140 hours of community service. They must also pay $5,000 restitution to the victims of the crime.
Unfortunately, I can’t take a Chip Kelly suspension too seriously. If you remember last year, running back LeGarrette Blount was suspended for the year for trying to start a riot with fans after a game, but was reinstated when the team needed another running back.
I have a feeling Masoli will be reinstated if the team loses a few games on the grounds “exemplary behavior.” But you and I both know the real reason would be to save Kelly’s job.
