Brothers Brian and Mike Hartline have both had a lot going for them this year.
Brian, the former Ohio State receiver, was having a good season with the Miami Dolphins. His 43 catches and 615 yards ranked him as the third best receiver on the team.
It was announced Saturday that Brian has been put on injured reserve due to a thumb injury he suffered against the Browns this past Sunday — ending his season. That’s some disheartening news for the second year player.
But Brian’s problems pale in comparison to his little brother’s.
Mike, the starting quarterback for the Kentucky Wildcats, was enjoying a decent season himself. The fifth-year senior is ranked 24th in the country in passing efficiency.
He was looking forward to an appearance in the BBVA Compass Bowl against the Pittsburgh Panthers to end his college football career, but he won’t get that chance.
Mike was suspended by UK coach Joker Phillips for a recent disorderly conduct arrest, which oddly enough also involves a Kentucky cheerleader getting arrested as well.
What a terrible way to end his college career. It’s uncertain whether he’ll get drafted by an NFL team. He may work his way onto a roster as an undrafted free agent. You would think the way he ended his college career would give him extra motivation to try to make an NFL team.
Any way you look at it, those calls home to mom probably have a much different tone today.
