MLB Umpire Jim Joyce Has Just Made The Worst Call of All Time

I’ve watched baseball for most of my life and I have seen many bad calls in my day.

All pale in comparison to the absolute hatched job that Major League Baseball Umpire Jim Joyce did in the 9th inning of the Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Indians game Wednesday night.

Tigers starting pitcher Armando Galarraga was perfect entering the 9th inning. After Austin Jackson tracked down a RIDICULOUS fly ball in center field with no outs in the 9th, it was clear that everyone in Detroit was ready to witness something special.

With 2 outs, Cleveland shortstop Jason Donald hit a slow roller between first and second on what should have been the last play of the game. First baseman Miguel Cabrera came off the bag, made a clean play and tossed to Galarraga covering first to make the final out, securing Galarraga’s place in the history books as only the twenty first person in the history of Major League Baseball to toss a perfect game.

First base umpire Jim Joyce saw it differently.

Albeit a close play, instant replay showed that Donald was clearly out but Joyce, much to the dismay of the home crowd, waved Donald safe.

Are you kidding me?

One out away from a perfect game in an otherwise meaningless game, this guy has the stones to call Donald safe?

Absolutely unacceptable. Jim Leyland and the rest of the Tigers bench read Joyce the riot act after the final out was recorded. Johnny Damon had to escort an enraged Miguel Cabrera off the field. Catcher Gerald Laird was first in line screaming at Joyce before an assistant coach pulled him away. Jim Joyce was ridiculed until the second he was off the field and out of sight. If you ask me, he got off easy.

Armando Galarraga was one out away from perfection… One out away from being associated with one of the greatest pitching performances of all time.

After a masterful performance like that, Armando Galarraga will still be remembered.

Unfortunately, Jim Joyce will make us remember it for all the wrong reasons.
