First MLB Manager Fired in 2010, Royals Can Trey Hillman

First MLB Manager Fired in 2010, Royals Can Trey HillmanIn what comes as no surprise to Royals faithful — save for maybe the timing – the Kansas City Royals ax skipper Trey Hillman, just 35 games into the season.

The leash managers are on has gotten much shorter and the team was struggling mightily do much of anything positive.  They are currently in last place in the AL Central with a 12-23 record.

He managed them to one last win, breaking a seven-game losing streak before getting in the unemployment line.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to get to manage today,” Hillman said. “You don’t want to go out on a seven-game losing streak.”

The Royals have hired ex-Brewers manager Ned Yost to take over managing duties.  You remember Ned Yost — the guy who got canned in the middle of a playoff run, two weeks before the playoffs began in 2008.  I guess having an unprecedented, inexplicable firing on your resume is one thing Royals executives look for in a new manager.

Additionally, for Royals brass to have any delusions of success must be very frustrating parameters to work within.  It truly wouldn’t matter if you had Casey Stengel managing this mess, they would finish 20 games below .500.

One down, how many to go?  Who’s going to be the next manager to get pink-slipped?  I’m going with Dave Trembley.
