LSU vs. Alabama – The Most Overrated Battle Of The Decade

LSU vs. Alabama The Most Overrated Battle Of The DecadeThis weekend’s LSU @ Alabama game is probably the most anticipated regular season NCAA football game in recent history. Undefeated #1 LSU takes to the road to face division foe and undefeated #2 Alabama in a clash of SEC West rivals.

Sure, it’s not #1 11-0 Ohio State vs #2 11-0 Michigan, but it’s still a huge game where the winner might as well book their ticket to the BCS National Championship game. After all, no team from the SEC East is going to contend with the winner of this game. Heck, no team from the SEC East should even be on the same field as ‘Bama or LSU.

That said, both of these teams are overrated. Yeah, I said it.

Despite their plethora of future NFL talent, neither team has had the chance to consistently prove how good they are. Beating up a bunch of weaklings that you are supposed to crush doesn’t make you a great team, it just makes you a team that wins the games its supposed to win. Yet despite their lack of quality wins, the national media cannot get enough of these teams. The media is quick to crown them as the “best college football teams ever.”

Look at it this way: LSU has just 1 quality win all year, over a solid Oregon team that very well may beat Stanford in 2 weeks and go on to win the Pac-12. The rest of LSU’s wins are over bad teams who were either unranked or over-ranked when LSU played them (ex: their win over #17 Florida was a joke—Florida isn’t even ranked anymore!) Wins over Northwestern State (this is a real school?), Kentucky and Tennessee (all unranked) do little to prove how good LSU really is. And their win over then #16 West Virginia looked like a quality win until WVU showed their true colors by getting blown out by Syracuse.

Alabama’s schedule is eerily similar, save one more quality win. They beat a solid Penn State team on the road and a very good Arkansas team at home. Arkansas is the only spoiler left as they play LSU in the season finale, but that game is in Baton Rouge and I highly doubt LSU will lose at home if the SEC Title Game (aka ticket to the BCS Championship game) is on the line. However ‘Bama’s wins over “Can’t read, Can’t write, Kent State”, North Texas (what?!), Vandy, Ole Miss and Tennessee do nothing other than prove ‘Bama can beat up teams who might as well be in Division 2.

LSU and Alabama are very good, and they are most likely the best 2 teams in the NCAA. However at no fault of their own they don’t get the chance to prove their dominance week in and week out. How could we change this? A Super Conference is one place to start! While this author has Florida in over LSU, you get the point. Put the best teams up against each other every week and we will truly see them showcase their talents and emerge as elite teams should.

Until then, we’ll have to be satisfied with this Saturday’s clash of titans in what is assured to be a great game. LSU’s current coach Les Miles vs their former coach Nick Saban in a #1 vs #2 matchup is the kind of story line that you can’t make up. And one thing is certain: there will be no excuses after this game- these teams will be battling to the final seconds and leaving it all out on the field.

Is this for real? If you don’t think that LSU and bama are by far the best teams in the nation, you don’t watch football. A 1 loss sec team should be in the national championship game no matter what.

I too would love a Super Conference… Only to show that no other Conference can compete with the SEC… Oregon has failed the test twice, so to call them a contender over any SEC team is a joke. A true contender?!?!? Who do they play in their schedule that is so great?? They were smoked in the BCS Championship game last year against Auburn and LSU smoked them again this year. And as history shows us 5 years running, soon to be 6, the SEC is the best. And then the talk of Boise State over and over by people saying they deserve a shot. No they dont. They played GEORGIA and won so now the Bronco Nation feels its ready to play with the big dogs? HA I hope with every ounce of hope in my body that Boise State gets a shot to play for the BCS Championship… Then they will see what its like to play a real college team and not those highschool teams they play in the bullpoop conference they call home. And if I seem a little angry its because I’m tired of all the whining from everyone and the trash talk about the SEC. From the integrity of the conference down to the teams that make up the conference there is NO comparison. The SEC is college football. And one more thing… the reason we dominate college football is because of that plethora of NFL talent. Here is a little bit more info:
The champion of the SEC has now won the last five national title games. That’s pretty astounding.

What’s more astounding is since the beginning of the BCS era, the SEC champion has won seven of the 13 BCS title games. That’s one more than half of them so far. And they’ve done it against the champions of the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC and now the Pac-10.

But perhaps the most astonishing feat of all of that is the depth. Since the BCS era started in 1998, a total of five DIFFERENT SEC teams have won the title. That would be Tennessee, LSU (twice), Florida (twice), Alabama and now Auburn.
    * This was taken from Donald Fincher(Analyst) on the bleacher report website… but dont stop there just google anything SEC and get a Eye and Ear full of the Greatness of the Conference. I see why everyone wants a Super Conference. I say a playoff but no super conference.

A Bleacher Report analyst?! Those are the unicorns of the sports blog world.

    Agreed…No comparison to the SEC

there is no f**king way a 1 loss SEC team should be in the national championship. if thats the case the 1 loss oregon team deserves to go in front of them. quit thinking your f**king conference is the greatest gift on earth. you are not that good to have a 1 loss team go to the ship. you guys think you are amazing bc you keep beating up on d4 team sin non conference games along with never travelling out of your own state to lpay a non conference game. florida hasnt traveled out of the state in over 20 years when they last played syracuse in 1990. if 1 loss SEC goes to the ship the NCAA and the BCS should be banned for having the SEC shoved so far up their ass

  6. donniccolo says:

    LOL Gabe!

Do you still feel that a “1 loss SEC team should play for the National Title no matter what” after seeing Bama miss 4 FGs?!

    LOLOLOLOL.

Sorry fellas but I think I hit the nail DIRECTLY on the head after this 5 FG puke-like effort.

  7. John Guyon says:

Hi anonymous! Oregon’s one loss team suffered that loss to which conference? Yeah. Boise is sh*t, Stanford is sh*t, and so on. Why are you so SEC racist? No one can make your conferences better. My suggestion: cornbread, extreme training climates, and 100′s of years of evolution.

  8. Anonymous says:

wake up dude – if you don’t think these 2 teams are BY FAR the 2 best in the country you’re either jealous of the sec or just a moron

  9. donniccolo says:

So Oklahoma State is not more deserving than an Alabama team that already played LSU…at home…and lost? No jealousy here, just common sense, brother.

  10. lcbo911 says:

Since Alabama beat LSU 21-0 in the Championship game, does that mean mean that Alabama does not deserve the title? I would suspect if Bama played OK State the outcome would be Bama. I watched Ok St in their bowl and not impressed they were better than Arkansas.

  11. donniccolo says:

    Oklahoma State would roll Alabama.

And LSU also considering Bama just rolled LSU.

  12. Joey says:

So alabama has some issues with their kickers.. Unfortunatly soccer isnt a popular thing in the south. And saying That LSU would lose to OK State if Bama lost is like saying the championship game was a sure win for LSU since they won the first time around. Bama deserved the win that night, however had les miles not forgotten to take his pills, he would have remember that he had a secondary QB that won him the first couple of games. Given a chance with jarret lee or if someone would have slapped the f**k out of jefferson, the outcome could have been different. Both of these teams are obviously top 2 in the nation, sorry you cant see the value of the greatest defenses in the nation going at it.

And as far as the SEC being the best. I have to agree. How many times per year does an unranked SEC team come and knock off some other top 10 team? How many ranked teams lost to unranked/SHIT teams this year? I Dont believe Bama or LSU did once.

And Alabama lost in an amazingly played defensive game to LSU the first time. This is coming from a HUGE LSU fan, but Bama could have easily won that first one. So no, OK state did not even come close to deserving this. Their schedule was SHIT and they lost to Iowa…. Who did Bama lose to again? Oh yea… THE NUMBER #1 RANKED TEAM IN THE NATION! No loss could mean less than that. Its like saying Micheal Johnson lost to Usain Bolt so I deserve a shot at him.

  13. who dey says:

it’s a good thing we had a rematch of this game. that was the most entertaining thing i have ever seen. i hope all you ass faces that posted about how great your SEC is, learn something from this. that’s great you play amazing defense. but news flash! NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT DEFENSE! I would rather watch my grandma knit me some new underwear than ever watch lsu and alabama play another football game against each other.

  14. SEChayta says:

This was the least watched BCS championship of all time. Enough said.

  15. John Guyon says:

Hey you said it buddy. Your conferences don’t give 2 shats about defense. Just remember offense fills the stands but defense wins championships. Hence the SEC’s 6 in a row. Ouch! Enjoy your crochet undies grandma’s boy. Maybe she can help your defenses out as well.

  16. John Guyon says:

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is within 10 miles of it doesn’t it still make a sound? If you wanna watch Entertainment TV why don’t u grab a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Froyo, put on your fat day pants and sob yourself to sleep. All I hear is Whaaaa. Relax. They are working on a way to get your crap teams into the championship.

  17. donniccolo says:

    SEChayta gets it.

Most of the rest of you don’t.
