What did We Learn From This Weekend Of Football [Nov. 19-21]

What did We Learn From This Weekend Of Football [Nov. 19 21]There was plenty to be thankful for as another week of football came and went.  What did we learn this week?

-Boise State started the week off Friday night with a 51-0 pounding of Fresno State.  Kellen Moore threw for 330 and 4 touchdowns.  For anyone else, that’s an amazing day.  For Kellen Moore, it’s just another day at the office.

-The Cincinnati Bengals put up 31 first half points, but forgot to show up in the second half, losing to the Buffalo Bills 49-31.  Why is Marvin Lewis still employed?

-LSU’s “lockdown defense” gave up 36 points to Jeremiah Masoli and the Ole Miss Rebels.  Still think a 1-loss SEC team is a lock for the title game?  This year, the SEC could not be the most overrated conference in college football history.

-The Cleveland Browns lost another heart breaker to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the final minutes of the game.  Browns running back Peyton Hillis scored again, and is gaining a “Chuck Norris-like” reputation in C-Town.  Hillis is quickly becoming the city’s favorite son, a position that has been vacant since that fraud left town.  South Beach brings their talents to Peyton Hillis.

-The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City, keeping their Big 10 title hopes alive.  Devier Posery dropped a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that had Scarlet and Gray Nation in disbelief.  Hope was all but lost until Terrelle Pryor ran for a first down on 4th and long, and continued to lead his team down the field for the game winning score.  While he looked shaky at times, Pryor delivered when it counted, and that’s all that should matter to Buckeye fans.  Or is it?

-Richard Seymour did to Ben Roethlisberger what all of America wanted to do on Sunday, dropping him like a rag doll.  For a guy that goes 6’5”, 265, Big Ben sure can’t take a punch.  He dropped faster than Paul Williams after being destroyed by Sergio Martinez.

-Speaking of rough housing, Cal and Stanford got their noses dirty before kickoff Saturday night with some pushing and shoving, setting the stage for a Pac 10 brawl.  That pre-game skirmish must have taken a lot out of the Golden Bears, because Andrew Luck and the Cardinal absolutely steam rolled them from the opening kick off.  Stanford’s only loss this year is on the road against Oregon.  This is a team I would not want to see come bowl season.

-Brett Favre faced his old team this week and… nevermind.  We knew how this would end before it even started.  Go away, Brett.

-Nebraska lost 9-6 to Texas A&M.  In football.  Not baseball.

-After losing their top two quarterbacks to injury, common sense would tell us that the Miami Dolphins would lean heavily on their all-pro tandem of running backs against the Chicago Bears.  Apparently Miami head coach Tony Sporano doesn’t follow the same logic, as the ‘Phins only ran the ball 7 times as the Bears rolled 16-0.

-If Brandon Weeden wore a Texas or an Oklahoma jersey, he would be on everyone’s Heisman short list.  He impressed once again this week, as his Oklahoma State Cowboys rolled Kansas 48-14.  Weeden finished the day with 389 yards and 3 touchdowns, and has very quietly become the best quarterback in the nation.  And it isn’t close.

-Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant dropped a Michael Vick touchdown pass against the Giants Sunday night, and Al Michaels called it “man bite dog news.”  Jesus, Al… act like you’ve been there before.

Tweet of the week:  “The Jets are a lucky team, with a fat coach and an overrated QB”
