Lane Kiffin bolts for SoCal, Vols dodge bullet

Lane Kiffin has agreed to replace Pete Carroll and become USC’s next head football coach. The USC job is one of the most coveted head coaching gigs in all of football and Lane seems to go wherever he likes. USC’s arrogance is brightly shining through with this decision — as they completely disregard the stability that nine years of Pete Carroll built, subsequently disregarding the success that accompanied that stability.

Kiffin has coached at USC, Oakland, Tennessee and now USC again in the last four years. That is an amazing amount of instability. USC obviously thinks it has the prime job and can keep him committed, but what happens when the sanctions start coming down and Kiffin skips town for a desparate NFL team? They will be in absolute disarray. Sometimes it is mind boggling how quickly a dynasty can collapse.

USC and Lane Kiffin deserve each other.

On the other hand, Tennessee really scored a mulligan on this one.  In what was clearly becoming a mismatch in personalities, Tennessee gets get out of jail free card.  Kiffin is way too Hollywood for Knoxville and now they get a quick chance to find someone who fits.  He frequently ran his mouth (at times, incorrectly) and was already being eyeballed for NCAA violations. I’m sure that’s not what Rocky Top had in mind.  Had he continued along the pace he was going, UT could have become the next school to get hit with massive NCAA sanctions.

What I really want to know is will Lane change his son Knox Kiffin’s name to Troy?

Just outside Neyland Thompson Sports Complex, things are being set on fire.

Why would he leave in the first place? USC is about to have all kinds of problems with the NCAA. Reggie Bush, McKnight, This dones't make any sense.

I agree…not to mention that the SEC champ is almost guaranteed a shot in the national championship….USC may not even be able to participate in bowl games if the roof caves in like it sounds like it will….

    John R.,

If you're a Vols fan, I would try very hard not to think about the answer to your question.
