Kevin Coble, Northwestern’s Best Player, Quits Basketball Team
Unless you are a fan of Northwestern or Big Ten basketball (which most people aren’t) you may not have even heard of Kevin Coble. The Wildcats are not exactly the cream of the crop when it comes to basketball glory, so losing your best player might not be that big of a deal to a school that is usually known for education.
But when you lose you best player TO education, you have to wonder, what the hell is this kid thinking?
Kevin Coble led the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding his freshman, sophomore, and junior season. He had to sit out last year due to a foot injury, but was expected to come back this year and possibly lead Northwestern to it’s first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. But instead, Coble has decided to concentrate on his Political Science degree, and forgo his senior season. You know, because that sounds like a lot more fun than playing basketball. And for a Political Science Degree? Mc McMahon was a Poly-Sci major, so you know it can’t be THAT difficult.
It isn’t often that the best player on your team quits his senior year, but in this case, it would appear that there could be more to this story. Apparently, Coble was not known as a social butterfly. He was referred to as “different”, and at times would not even sit with the team during meals. And even though his quitting might not come as a shock to some of his teammates, fans of Northwestern basketball have to be a bit disappointed.
It’s just a shame this guy didn’t have it in him to finish out his senior year and possibly try and get drafted by the NBA. You know the Jazz and Pacers are always looking to draft players just like him.
