Is Jerry Colangelo Threatening LeBron James?

I don’t know Jerry Colangelo (USA basketball managing director) any more than I know Manmohan Singh, but after recent comments I am convinced the former is an idiot.

With Lebron James recently stating he is probably not playing for this summer’s team USA, Colangelo responded by telling Yahoo! Sports that there will be “no free passes to London” handed to players for the 2012 Olympic games. 

He continues on to say that unless they skip “without a legit issue, they do it with an understanding of the risk.”

Nice Jerry, way to try and be a hard ass. What it sounds like you are saying is that you are going to tell the most dominant player in the NBA that he is not going to make the Olympic team because he won’t play this summer.

It’s not like Lebron is busy or anything. He only has to be a dad, satisfy endorsers, and contemplate the biggest decision of his life in choosing whether or not to stay in Cleveland.

Sorry, I think traveling to Turkey to play in the 2010 Summer Games is the last thing Lebron is worried about right now. Let’s be honest, how many Americans even pay attention to international games that aren’t called the Olympics?

By all means, keep Lebron off the London squad and witness true fan backlash. If Colangelo is trying to make a stand with these players, he is failing miserably.

Lebron could tell him to f**k off, take Jerry’s mom out to a nice steak dinner, never call her again and still make the Olympic team. We are as close to having the “Dream Team” back as we have ever had.  No one is going to let some doucher on a power trip ruin it.
