Add Mike Munchak to the list of coaches that want nothing to do with the Penn State job. The Tennessee Titans Head Coach denied that he has any interestin becoming the new head coach for the Penn State Nittany Lions. He was on top of the list of coaches that Penn State was interested in and he has no interest what so ever.
And I am not surprised one bit.
The only thing that could be worse than taking over for one of the most cherished coaches in sports history, would be to take over for one of the most cherished coaches in sports history after he was fired for a scandal involving child molestation. It’s a situation that is not only extremely difficult to overcome, but also one that is not worth taking the risk.
And while I do believe that Penn State will always have a large fan base, what happens when you cant land any star recruits that live outside if Pennsylvania? What happens when Penn State has 5 straight losing seasons? What happens when Linebacker U becomes a place that good linebackers use to go?
It’s a scenario that I cannot see shaping up any other way. Not only do I not see how they will be able to recruit, but how will they get a coach that is desperate enough to take over this mess?
It’s a job that would only interest me if I was either a s**tty coach that knows it will be the best job I could get, or if I were about to retire and it would be my last hoorah. Either way, I would obviously not be someone who you should start a rebuilding process with. You would probably be better off with one of these guys.
Joe Paterno is an irreplaceable figure in Penn State history. But the acts of Jerry Sandusky have turned this once great University into a job no one will want.
