I Hope Matt Leinart’s Senior Year At USC Was Fun
Being the starting Quarterback at Southern Cal definitely has its perks. Not only are you surrounded by some of the most talented players the nation has to offer, giving you the best chance to be successful on the field, but there are also many off the field benefits that only the starting Quarterback at USC gets. And hopefully for Matt Leinart, he took care advantage of every single one of those p***y-getting moments, because I’m not sure things are going to get much better than that in the NFL.
As of yesterday, Leinert is looking for a new job as the Arizona Cardinals have released the former Heisman winner in favor of ex-Browns Quarterback (BUM!!!) Derek Anderson.
Leinart, who has always been somewhat ridiculed throughout his NFL career as being someone who cares more about being famous than being a starting Quarterback, has to now look back at his past choices and wonder if he made the right decision to stay his Senior year. Especially considering that he would have been the #1 pick in the 2005 draft had he came out as a Junior.
Leinart ended up falling to the #10 pick in the 2006 draft, making a measly $14 mil in guaranteed money. And while for poor-f**ks like me realize that is still a ton of money, Alex Smith, the #1 pick in the 2005 draft received $24 million in guaranteed cash, while purple-drank-fat-boy made $29 million guaranteed in 2007. Mario Williams was the #1 pick in 2006 (the year Leinart went #10), and he got $26.5 million guaranteed.
But the whole reason I’m pointing this out, is the fact that since Leinart decided to go back to USC for his Senior year, he not only left about $10-12 million in guaranteed money on the table, but he would have also had the chance to still be starting for the 49ers. I mean, they are giving Alex Smith another chance, so you know Leinart at least wouldn’t have been cut by now.
So all I’m saying is that I hope Leinart’s Senior year was a blast. I hope all the party’s and girls and temporary fame was worth $10 mil and a chance at a starting job in the NFL. I also hope he saved some of that $14 he received in guaranteed money – because who knows if he will have the chance to sign a contract like that ever again.
