Golf Swing Starts Fire, Burns Up 12 Acres Next To Course

A man in Irvine, California started a huge fire last Saturday with one swing of a golf club.

He asked for his name to be withheld, so we’ll call him “Larry.”  When “Larry” swung his club, he accidentally chipped a rock and that was all the spark that was needed to get that baby going.

Twelve acres of land in all were burnt to a crisp.  Eventually 150 firefighters responded to the fire.

“Usually, we’re able to close out the fire season in the winters here,” Orange County Fire Authority Captain Greg McKeown said, “but we haven’t been able to do that since 2006. That’s just how dry it is out there.”

You could say “Larry” was en fuego.
