Former Clemson star and Chicago Bears defensive end Gaines Adams died this morning of cardiac arrest, according to the county coroner.
Greenwood County Coroner James T. Coursey told ESPN that Adams was pronounced dead at 9 a.m.
Coursey said the preliminary autopsy indicated Adams died of cardiac arrest caused by an enlarged heart.
“We are stunned and saddened by the news of Gaines’ passing,” the Bears said in a statement. “Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
This is horrible news for the Adams family and our thoughts go out to them. It is always unfortunate to lose someone so young so early.
