The meltdown continues.
The World Cup hasn’t been kind to France since the last minutes of the 2006 championship, featuring the headbutt heard ’round the world.
The French soccer team, who started off with a sex scandal involving our favorite hooker Zahia Dehar, has continued a spiral the likes of which we usually only see from the Mets.
The 1998 World Cup champs and 2006 runners-up have an 0-1-1 record and are all but eliminated from the second round. The team and fans have much bigger expectations for the team, who are currently ranked #9 in the world, They just got spanked by Mexico having played what was called a sluggish performance. Almost like they aren’t interested.
The next chapter is internal turmoil featuring the coach and a star player. Nicolas Anelka has been kicked off the team after getting into a heated, explative-laden exchange with coach Raymond Domenech.
When Anelka refused to publicly apologize for his rant, he was unceremoniously shown the door.
Even the French captain, Patrice Evra had some unkind words for Anelka, whose known as “Le Sulk” in England for his demonstrative behavior.
Evra, who was also present, adding that Anelka’s comments are “totally unacceptable for the FFF, French football and the values it defends.”
They tied the first game, 0-0 and then lost to Mexico, 2-0. They have no life and appear to be folding.
Their demise is coming at no disappointment to the Irish. who celebrate French losses almost as much as Irish wins — drinking tequila in support of their Mexican friends.
To make things even better, Evra is still concerned about a traitor who is still on the squad. He was extra twisted about the news of the argument getting out in the media.
It “came from someone in this group, who wishes the French team harm,” Evra said. “The problem isn’t Anelka, it’s the traitor among us, you have to say it.
“How can this come out?”
All we can do is sit back and smile.
