ESPN World Cup Posters, All 33 FIFA Murals Picture Gallery

ESPN has released their 2010 World Cup posters. Some of them are really awesome and others are just weird. A lot of them rely on a surprising amount of stereotypes like the Australian guy being half kangaroo or the Ivory Coast guys riding elephants, but all in all they are colorful, interesting and get us just a little more pumped for the arrival of the World Cup.

Who cares? Maybe if Serbia would be a little more successful on the world stage somebody from another country might give a s**t about them.
Slovenia and Japan’s are the coolest, Uruguay’s is the weirdest. It looks like a children’s television show that was cancelled for being way, way too creepy.
all these are crap.
The Ivory Coast team nickname is The Elephants. Using them is not a stereotype, but a nod to their name.

Agreed, also the Australian team’s nickname is the Soccerroos. So the kangaroo cartoon is also a reference to their name. The only stereotype I spotted was the Japanese one, I dont know if they have a team nickname having to do with samurai but if they dont, having an entirely non soccer realted sword wielding warlord as a poster is kind of stereotypical
Looks like somebody really, really wanted to make a tarot deck, then got stuck with the “lame” job of drawing World Cup posters instead.
cameroon’s got a pretty beast poster.
i think australia has the creepiest
Does it look like the guy from Paraguay is holding weed? Or is it just me?

The Japanese team nickname is Blue Samurai.

Besides the Ivory Coast team being called “Les Elephants” and the Aussies “Socceroos”, the Cameroonians are the “Indominatable Lions” and the Nigerians are the “Super Eagles”. Mr Rack Em Up, I believe the Japanese are the “Blue Samurais” which is why the samurai in that poster is in blue. I like these posters, I think they’re well done :)
These are awesome. Love the UK one dragging the weight of ‘66 and the Swiss one made me chuckle.
Hey… how can I buy one of these?
I agree with Jason… not my favourite style BUT at least they didn’t just run them through Photoshop. Kaitlyn: espn store or ebay for sure.
Why so many people hatin on the posters? I think they are great! It’s fun, it’s catchy and I think that was the point. Yes some are sterotypical, but that is what general world cup ads are going to be. I say get over it and enjoy what is left of the world cup. it’s a special event.
oh yeah, forgot to mention, the only thing that’s annoying is that it’s not easy to find it on ESPN.com
