ESPN World Cup Posters, All 33 FIFA Murals Picture Gallery

ESPN has released their 2010 World Cup posters.  Some of them are really awesome and others are just weird.  A lot of them rely on a surprising amount of stereotypes like the Australian guy being half kangaroo or the Ivory Coast guys riding elephants, but all in all they are colorful, interesting and get us just a little more pumped for the arrival of the World Cup.

  4. Milos says:

Are you crazy,or are you stupid?!
First of all, what the fu*c are seagulls doing in Serbian picture? It should be eagles!
Second, where is Kosovo?Kosovo was,is and forever will be heart of Serbia!Less than 30% of states from all over the world recognized Kosovo’s independence,so Kosovo is STILL Serbia!70% is with us,so change the picture!
    Third,it is Yugoslavia’s flag,not Serbian!

  5. srb says:

The picture that represents Serbia is mockery to Serbian and its nation.First, the map of Serbian state is not correct. It is missing its southern province.Second, the flag is completely wrong. It is old Yugoslavian flag and not Serbian.Third,Serbia has white eagles on its national coat of arms and not those gulls.

So, the ESPN should quickly remove it and correct the mistakes, especially this one with the map which shows the political bias of the ESPN when no other country is shown by its map,and especially not with the crippled one.

  33. Luka says:

Is someone doing this on purpose?Or is just THAT dumb?

  34. Dragan says:

Why insult Serbia with this picture? It’s really unfair.
Instead of Serbian flag, you put the flag of the federation that no longer exists.
Instead of white eagles, the Serbian national symbols, you put seagulls.
And you show a map of Serbia without part of its territory.

Why is it necessary to disparage any nation on this portal?

  35. critias says:

    @Fisher
With good reason. Take a look at the Serbia’s picture. Pay attention to the area around the bird closest to the bottom of the image. According to Serbia and more than 94 other countries, that area (called Kosovo i Metohija) is her rightful part. On the other hand, USA and roughly 68 other countries say that Kosovo i Metohija is independent. UN has not recognized KiM as an independent state, nor did FIFA or UEFA (I’m saying this because this is a football/soccer article, no?) and the International Court of Justice in Hague is currently deliberating on the legality of KiM’s unilateral secession. Plainly said, it’s a very touchy subject for the Serbs.
Also, the artist/site has managed to make a few additional mistakes regarding Serbia. Those birds should be eagles (as on Serbia’s Coat of Arms), not seagulls or whatever those things are supposed to be. Also, the flag colors are wrong; it should be red-blue-white not blue-white-red.

Vi ste jedan mali iskompleksirani, ciganski i gubitnički narod.

Nema.

    Zašto?

Zato što Kosovo NIJE Srbija. Pomirite se s činjenicama već jednom.

  38. Oliver says:

As we see, all free and democratic World are recognized Kosovo.

Except countries whose oppress the some other nations within its borders like as Serbs oppress Albanians.

Like Spain who oppress Basques and Catalonians, or Slovakians whose have problems with Hungarians etc…

Dovoljno je sto vas vasa premijerka bruka pred svetom. U tom pogledu ti si potpuno suvisan.

  40. bergues says:

    @oliver

    Nice pistures !
P.S. Who cares Kosova except serbians? No one….

  43. critias says:

    @burn
If it were a part of your country, wouldn’t you care? Of course you would. Wouldn’t you want the world to know about the injustice being done to your people? Again, of course you would. Just because it’s being done to someone else doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t care. Why? Because one day it might just happen to you and when it does, you will want all the support you can get (I’m talking of course about other nations and their people).

  44. Oliver says:

    @ Bergues

  45. TF says:

Taking a break from Serbia for a sec :

Cameroon are the Indomitable Lions (awesome nick name)
Ivory Coast are the Elephants (which is why they are on the Elephants in the poster – it wasn’t meant to be insulting or stereotypical)
    Nigeria are the Super Eagles
    Ghana are the Black Stars
South Africa are called the Bafana Bafana (whihc roughly translates into “the Boys”)

  46. [...] out all the stops with their interactive World Cup Calendar. It doesn’t have the kitschy, borderline insensitive drawings ESPN’s special edition does. But it does break the tournament down by group, date, team, and [...]

  47. America says:

    Look,

The birds look like Eagles drawn in the form of a cartoon. I f you dont want them to look funny change your name from the White Eagles to something easier to distinguish.

It is misguided to have your flag upside down in the Yugoslavian manner but I do think the artist was trying to use the form of your country in place of the cool coat of arms thing and that seems interesting.

Your capital and home stadium are both based in Belgrade so that seems good.

    ***************************************************

As for the Kosovo matter I am guessing it is a bit touchy. I have read your comments and we dont care much about your country kind of like you dont care much for us. However these are ESPN posters made in the USA for the USA and the fact that you searched them out on the internet is your problem.

Unfortunately it does not matter how all of you Serbian’s feel about Kosovo and the fact that only 69 of 192 UN nations voted it as independent.

    You know why?

Because the USA was one of those 69 UN nations.

Since ESPN and the poster maker are in the USA it kind of makes completely obvious sense that they would make the poster this way since we already agreed to respect Kosovo’s independence.

If you dont like ESPN and the USA go watch the World Cup on your own countries damn network!

    ********************************************

Also the people who write for this site should do the five minutes of research it takes to find out that every “stereotype” is actually due to the teams name or the teams stadiums name in the case of Mexico and Azteca stadium.

Yes in soccer or football some teams have nicknames.

  48. The Scot says:

Looking at the Serbian picture it looks like two eagles to me , maybe you should go look at what a seagull actually looks like .

All the pictures look awesome and i congratulate the artist , although the Australia one just looks weird if im being honest , 9/10 though

  49. Iwo21 says:

FU*K this SH*T! Slovakian!s nickname is Jondas and we ALSO DONT KNOW what is JONDAS :D THIS SUXS!!!!!!!!! We ARE “Repre” som go fu*k yourself ESPN!

  50. ACF says:

Did someone ever recognized 10 legs to Cristiano Ronaldo? I don’t think so…

So, that poster of Portugal should be changed immediately…

    :)

  51. Yanks says:

Who cares? Maybe if Serbia would be a little more successful on the world stage somebody from another country might give a s**t about them.

  52. Justin says:

Slovenia and Japan’s are the coolest, Uruguay’s is the weirdest. It looks like a children’s television show that was cancelled for being way, way too creepy.

  53. boba says:

    all these are crap.

  54. DAvid1 says:

The Ivory Coast team nickname is The Elephants. Using them is not a stereotype, but a nod to their name.

  55. Mr Rack Em Up says:

The Ivory Coast team nickname is The Elephants. Using them is not a stereotype, but a nod to their name.

    ——

Agreed, also the Australian team’s nickname is the Soccerroos. So the kangaroo cartoon is also a reference to their name. The only stereotype I spotted was the Japanese one, I dont know if they have a team nickname having to do with samurai but if they dont, having an entirely non soccer realted sword wielding warlord as a poster is kind of stereotypical

  56. Jason says:

Looks like somebody really, really wanted to make a tarot deck, then got stuck with the “lame” job of drawing World Cup posters instead.

  57. rissa says:

cameroon’s got a pretty beast poster.
i think australia has the creepiest

  58. Maureen says:

Does it look like the guy from Paraguay is holding weed? Or is it just me?

  59. dodol says:

The only stereotype I spotted was the Japanese one, I dont know if they have a team nickname having to do with samurai but if they dont, having an entirely non soccer realted sword wielding warlord as a poster is kind of stereotypical

    ____

The Japanese team nickname is Blue Samurai.

    n00b

  60. IamBatman says:

Besides the Ivory Coast team being called “Les Elephants” and the Aussies “Socceroos”, the Cameroonians are the “Indominatable Lions” and the Nigerians are the “Super Eagles”. Mr Rack Em Up, I believe the Japanese are the “Blue Samurais” which is why the samurai in that poster is in blue. I like these posters, I think they’re well done :)

  61. SwissColony says:

These are awesome. Love the UK one dragging the weight of ’66 and the Swiss one made me chuckle.

  62. Kaitlyn says:

Hey… how can I buy one of these?

  63. PhilMcKraken says:

I agree with Jason… not my favourite style BUT at least they didn’t just run them through Photoshop. Kaitlyn: espn store or ebay for sure.

  64. Connie says:

Why so many people hatin on the posters? I think they are great! It’s fun, it’s catchy and I think that was the point. Yes some are sterotypical, but that is what general world cup ads are going to be. I say get over it and enjoy what is left of the world cup. it’s a special event.

  65. Connie says:

oh yeah, forgot to mention, the only thing that’s annoying is that it’s not easy to find it on ESPN.com
