Easiest Job In Sports Up For Grabs, Colts Release Back-Up QB Sorgi
Long time Peyton Manning back-up, Jim Sorgi, has been released by the Indianapolis Colts after 6 years with the team, and now the title for “easiest job in sports” is up for grabs.
Sorgi was due a $275K roster bonus this year, which was reason enough for the Colts to hand the clipboard over to Curtis Painter who filled in as back-up at the end of the 2009 season while Sorgi was recovering from injury.
Now that Sorgi is no longer Peyton’s back-up, it makes you wonder who now has the easiest job in sports? It would be easy to just hand the title over to Painter, but what fun would that be? Here are a couple nominations to take over the title.
Who else do you think deserves a nomination?
Chris Quinn – 12th man for the New Jersey Nets
Chris Quinn is the 3rd string PG for the worst team in the NBA. It really doesn’t get much easier than that. Absolutely nothing is expected of you, except maybe to participate a little bit harder in practice than most people, just to show your worth. Quinn has played in a total of 15 games this season, including time with the Miami Heat, and is averaging 9 minutes in those 15 games. With a salary of $1,050,387, I would say Quinn could be in the running for the new title.
Any Long Reliever in MLB
If you are a long reliever for a professional baseball team, then you basically have it made. The bullpen (except in Chicago) looks like a pretty relaxing place to hang out. And not only that, as a long reliever, your manager does not want you to play. Usually when a long reliever is in the game, then that means your starter sucked and you are probably getting your ass kicked already. Sure, if you can go in there and hold the team to less runs, that’s great, but it really isn’t expected of you. If you were that great, you would be starting. Not to mention the $1.78 million average salary for relief pitchers, and you’ve got yourself a pretty good gig.
Jake Ingram – Long Snapper for the New England Patriots
I know how most people think that the Punter has it easy, which they do, but not as easy as the long snapper. Especially when you are Jake Ingram, the long snapper for the team that punts the least amount of times in the NFL. The Patriots punter Chris Hanson, punted 57 times last year. This means that Jake Ingram got paid $380K to snap the ball 57 times. Now you can just as easily say that Hanson got paid more than twice as much as Ingram to do the same amount of work, but it is much easier to snap the ball between your legs accurately, than to accurately place a ball within the 5 yard line with your foot. Not to mention Ingram went to college in Hawaii, and with this wardrobe, there is no way dude is stressing out about anything. I think he’s wearing a man-purse.
