Duke Wins NCAA Championship, Defeats Butler In Slugfest

Ladies and gentlemen, Duke is your national champion.

In an extremely hard-fought and defensive battle, both teams refused to go down without a fight. That is not to say this was a dirty game at all. It was far from it.

Before the game we all knew we were in for an exhibition in fundamentals. Many thought the game would be a little higher scoring affair, and the pace of the game played directly into Butler’s hands.

Back and forth, forth and back. In the end, Duke prevailed, 61-59.

Gordon Hayward, one of Butler’s man-children, played his heart out and should be given a good pat on the back for his gutsy effort. Indiana would be holding their own version of Mardi Gras right now if his buzzer beating half-court heave would have banked in. It was damn close.

Now it is time to let the nation mourn. What could have been was never meant to be. You knew Duke was going to win anyway, so why did you get your hopes up?

Now we turn our attention to Coach K and whether or not he wants to quadruple his salary to take over the worst team in the NBA. Anyone offered that kind of raise would have to at least consider it.
