Most people do not know what to do when getting attacked by an alligator. Especially when they have decided to chomp on your torso while swimming.
Doug McCard considers himself lucky.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, McCard said he thinks he startled the reptile and that it reacted by chomping him.
“If it was after me, it would have probably taken me under and rolled because that’s what gators do,” he said.
McCard said that he got the 8-10 foot gator to let go by elbowing it in the head and then he ran out of the waist-deep Orange County lake.
“I got a pretty good elbow to his head, and he released me. I started yelling maybe to try to scare him away and backed off until I could run, and then I ran out of the water.”
He did have a few injuries, but nothing too serious. Lucky, lucky dude.
They have since closed the lake for swimming and trappers are currently looking for the offending reptile.
