The Detroit Lions are the most hapless franchise in the NFL. There is no doubt.
The latest episode for the sad sacks of the NFL features a team president who was arrested for swerving and driving with a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit.
Tom Lewand is sad. And of course, he’s sorry, too.
I hate to be such a dick, but there is no way this guy can keep his job. How can you rule with any sort of iron fist with the players when your own team president can’t muster up the fortitude to call a cab.
If for only that reason alone he has to be fired.
Oh the celebration the fans had when Matt Millen was jettisoned. I don’t recall a Matt Millen DUI. Though he does have a drinking game named in his honor.
Now the NFL commissioner has chimed in, reminding us all that Lewand is subject to the same conduct policy as anyone.
“As I’ve said before, this isn’t a player policy, it’s a personal conduct policy,” said Roger Goodell. “It goes for everybody in the NFL.”
Goodell’s got a lot of history to draw from. If I had to guess, I would say he gets fined $50k. That’s a lot of f**king cabs.
