In the world of sports there are an astounding number of hypocrites. It suffices to say that the epidemic runs through all of society, not just sports.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t point ‘em out.
Damon Evans, however, has taken it to a whole new level. Up until now, he has been the perfect example of exemplary leadership and success. Of all the tests he passed with flying colors to get to this point in his career, the one test he couldn’t pass was a field sobriety test.
The U of Georgia Athletic Director has been very outspoken against drunk driving. Watch the video below, listen to it and then look at his mugshot while you’re listening to him spew up hypocricy.
If you watch his eyes closely, you can tell he is reading a cue card. You can not tell me a man of this stature can not speak from the heart about drunk driving. That is, unless he never meant it in the first place.
Oh, and guess what? He’s sorry.
But I thought this was “Operation Zero Tolerance”. What exactly does zero tolerance mean to you, Damon? I guess we’ll find out.
Let’s take a break from his failure to heed his own warnings, and take a look at the hilarious mugshot again. He is absolutely blasted. You know what’s not hilarious about this mugshot? He was driving shortly before this was taken.
And don’t forget about the fiery little 28-year-old he had in the car (Courtney Fuhrmann — hit her up on Facebook, yo! You have to be signed in).
She got herself thrown in the can for the night, too. The cops said something about she kept getting out of the car and yelling, blah, blah.
He refused a breathalizer like a pimp. Which makes me think…
He’s had this conversation with his lawyer before. He knew what to do. Even if they suspend your license you’ll still get to drive to work and whatnot. His lawyer will get him approved to go wherever he pleases.
But how can you respect him as a leader? How can he keep his job? Anyone can print out that mugshot and laugh. Hang it up on the wall and laugh some more.
He needs to resign. Go to rehab, seek treatment, etc. Come back in 3-4 years at Wooster or Guilford. In 6-8 years no one will remember this and he can move up to Baylor or Rutgers.
Baby steps, Damon. Baby steps.
