It appears the vuvuzela is becoming popular to more than just South Africans.
The Florida Marlins, in a desperate attempt to get fans to come to games, gave away free vuvuzelas to the first 15,000 fans that attended the game on Saturday, which judging from past Marlins attendance numbers I’m willing to guess was everybody.
The popular, yet annoying buzzing noise could be heard throughout the entire game. Players actually complained of having headaches mid-way through, while Dan Uggla actually had to wear ear plugs because the noise was getting to him so bad.
“This isn’t soccer. I know the World Cup is going on, but this is baseball. We don’t want to hear horns or anything like that. We want to hear the crowd cheering. We want to hear the crowd getting behind us, not horns” said Uggla after the game.
I am right with Dan on this one. I don’t make it to too many baseball games, but if I happened to go on vuvuzela night I would be beyond pissed. The only thing I want giving me a headache at the ballgame is having too many 20 dollar draft beers.
If you watch the video from the link below you will love the irony of the couple that were turned away from the stadium because they brought a cow-bell (an equally annoying instrument) because it makes too much noise.
