Congratulations To Spain, Your 2010 World Cup Champions

Spain beat Netherlands today, 1-0, in a boring, slow-paced, methodically played game that took 116 minutes to display the lone goal scored.

The goal salvaged the game — at least it wasn’t decided by penalty kicks like the last two World Cup championships.

Spain appeared to have the quicker team, and they used their speed to their advantage.  They also seemed to have better ball handlers.  Both teams had plenty of actors, with flopping being prevalent all over the field.

Both teams also had many wide-open opportunities to score, but couldn’t finish the play for one reason or another.

This is the first World Cup championship in Spain’s history, but their victory comes as no surprise.  They entered the World Cup ranked #2 in the world, and many odds-makers had them as a 2:1 favorites to win the Cup.

The last day of the World Cup brought us many exciting events.  Like that damn octopus that went eight for eight, picking the winner of all the final games correctly.

After Andres Iniesta’s game winning goal he ripped off his shirt exposing an undershirt with the words “Dani Jarque seimpre con nosotros” which means “Dani Jarque is always with us.” (see picture above)

This is a tribute to a former player, Dani Jarque, who died of a heart attack before a game in 2009.

Or how that dumbass, Jimmy Jump, who makes it a habit of rushing sporting events for no apparent reason?  He tried to put a hat on the World Cup trophy during the ending ceremony.
