Chris Simms Driving High With Pregnant Wife In Passenger Seat

So when I first heard about this story yesterday I just figured, eh, whatever, another athlete being stupid and driving when he could obviously afford a taxi, or at least have someone come pick him up. And that’s the conservative part of me. The other side was thinking – driving high? So what. Better than getting drunk as s**t and driving around.

Then some of the details start coming out about who was with Simms and what exactly happened when he got pulled over. And now it starts to look a little worse.

Apparently, Simms’ wife who is 8 months prego, was in the passeneger seat with him when he was pulled over. Which makes me now think one of two things. Either Simms is completely innocent and these claims are totally bogus, or he is just a regular stoner and his wife has ridden with him high many times.

Even though police claim that Simms admitted to smoking weed in the car earlier in the day, his lawyer, Nathan Semmel, is stating that he did not. Apparently he only said he was smoking cigarettes in the car…yeah. Because admitting to smoking cigarettes is reason enough to get busted?

Semmel proceeded to call it “absurd” to suggest that Simms would drive impaired while his wife, eight months pregnant with their second child, was riding in the car. He also went on to say that the weed smell could have come from the two passengers in the back seat when Simms was pulled over – a claim that I’m sure Simms’ two buddies really appreciate.

All and all this has just not been a good month for Tennessee Titans quarterbacks. With the arrest of Vince Young earlier this month, and now one of the back-ups getting busted for weed, it’s no wonder they felt the need to keep old man Kerry Collins around.
