According to numerous sources, Pete Carroll will be leaving USC to become the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. It is being reported that the apparent deal could be 5 years totaling $35 million.
Whether or not this move for Carroll has anything to do with the legal allegations against USC, this is just the next step in the long line of bad publicity for the University of Southern Cal. Not only when it comes to the allegations against Joe McKnight, but we also need to remember that there are still stories out there regarding O.J. Mayo and Reggie Bush receiving “improper benefits”.
So is Carroll just the next in line to ditch USC while he still can? That is really the only reason I can think of that he would want to leave. For the past decade, the USC job has been by far a much better job than the majority of NFL coaching positions, including Seattle. Not to mention, he has already been down this road once, (33-31 record with Patriots & Jets) and it is obvious that he is much better at recruiting than he is at motivating his employees in the NFL (aka players).
Although, with all the experience he has been getting in dealing with high paid players lately, this Seahawks gig could work out.
