How the hell can a Division 1 basketball team only score 5 points in twenty minutes? Was the Notre Dame defense really that remarkable? If you watched the game, seriously, let me know because this is absolutely incredible.
The Golden Bears were down 21-5 at halftime, which set a modern era record for lowest points scored in a half. A record that had to make every single player on that team want to go get completely s**tfaced tonight. I would know. I was once on a high school basketball team that was losing 38-3 at halftime – and we started the game with a 3-0 lead. It is totally humiliating.
But fortunately for them, there have been many NCAA halftime scoring records that are rather shocking, and I can honestly say I do not remember a single one of them. Good news for Cal. Here are some of the crazies…
- Long Island University vs. Medgar Evers College – Nov. 26, 1997 – Long Island scored 98 points in a single half.
- Loyola Marymount vs. Gonzaga – Feb. 18, 1989 – Teams combined to score 172 points in a single half. The score was tied at 86 at halftime.
- Connecticut vs New Hampshire – Dec. 12, 1990 – Connecticut started the game on a 32-0 run. Pancakes.
- Tulane vs. Duke – Dec. 30, 1950 – Tulane took a 58-27 lead into halftime, only to blow the lead and lose 74-72.
- Kansas State vs. Savannah State – Jan. 7, 2008 – Savannah State scored 4 points in the second half.
These are just a few of the head-shakers that have taken place. If you want to see more NCAA Basketball records, check ‘em out here.
