Today is an exciting day for the Baylor basketball program. They will take on a very tough opponent in St. Mary’s tonight in the NCAA Tournament, having just come off of NCAA probation this year.
Tonight is a shining example of how far the Bears program has come. Many forget the scandals of 7 years back. And today, there was some closure on the one of the biggest scandals/tragedies in college basketball history.
In 2003, Carlton Dotson murdered his best friend, teammate and roommate, Patrick Dennehy in cold blood.
The reasons are muddled, as Dotson has tried to play off all different kinds of psychological problems. His defense attorneys declined to plead insanity. Apparently he couldn’t even convince them.
Baylor has finally made it past the scandal, proving to be one of the better teams in the country this year. Most people don’t remember or have simply forgotten how far the program had fallen. I vividly recall reading about this story and wondering how the hell something like this can even happen. It’s still mind blowing to this day.
Today, justice was served and a horrible chapter in Baylor basketball history was finally closed.

I had forgotten all about this. It is amazing how far they’ve come. I remember thinking when this happened that this program may never recover from this scandal. Now here they are, in the Sweet 16.
This is so sad.
RIP, Patrick. RIP. You will never be forgotten.
