Bat From Pete Rose’s Last Hit Auctions For $158,776
And they said it went for less than they expected.
Lelands is a high-end auction house. They recently sold the black Mizuno bat that Pete Rose used to hit his 4,256th (and last) hit for $158,776. That’s about the cost of an average-sized home in many parts of the country.
I love sports memoribilia auctions and frequent many of them like Memory Lane, Heritage and Hunt. I am always amazed at the prices some people pay for things.
Like $21,000 on a 1952 Bowman Jim Lansford football card.
Or $218,000 for a George Mikan rookie card.
Owning a piece of sports history is a very cool feeling. Especially when the items are from a time period way before you were born. Those things have a different kind of mystique. I can’t wait to get my hands on something Lou Gehrig used one day.
But the only people who have this kind of cash are the super-rich.
I mean, how many people can really afford to pay $86,000 for a Jackie Robinson bat? Or $191,000 for a game-worn Bobby Orr jersey?

George Mikan was the Truth-I used to have to work on”mikans” every day at practice in high school. 42 points in a Finals game with a broken wrist.
Why is this stuff so valuable? I don’t get it.
