Baseball Players With Four Hits In Major League Debut Adds A Member
Blue Jays rookie J.P. Arencibia had the best debut in major league baseball history today, adding his name to a few elite statistical lists in the meantime.
Arencibia hit two home runs, had four hits, drove in three runs and scored three himself. That line looks like 5-3-4-3 (2 HR). Not bad for the first day of his MLB career.
He was called up from AAA a few days ago and made the most of his opportunity. Not only did he hit 2 home runs in his major league debut, which has never happened, he hit a home run on the very first pitch.
He also joins a very elite group of players, just 12 to be exact, who have gotten four hits in their debut. Oddly enough, it had been 12 years since someone had accomplished the feat (Derrick Gibson, 1998) and it’s the second time it has happened this year. Twins rookie Wilson Ramos did it May 2, earlier this year.
No player has ever gotten four hits in a game and hit a home run in his MLB debut, let alone two.
The list of baseball players with four hits in their major league debut looks like this:
