Anyone who has ever played for a sports team past middle school has played for an asshole. Usually it is an insecure man who uses his power to make himself feel good, operating under the guise of motivation. Countless high school talents quit their beloved sport due to some college coach wannabe making their post-school life a living hell.
Mike Leach has been suspended due to allegations that he mistreated a player who had sustained a concussion. Mark Mangino has also been shown the door earlier this year due to similar assholishness.
You know these schools have known about their coaches’ personalities for years. This is nothing new. The handling of it is new. Soon enough, every kid who thinks he should start will find something that the coach said or did that hurt their feelings. Then the coach will become a target of false allegations. This is what happens when legitimate claims come out and are dealt with. Copycat claims will come and make the picture muddier.
It is a good thing that these schools are losing their patience with asshole coaches. I just wonder how much this is going to encourage the already entitled primadonnas to whine about their playing time via a finger poked in the proverbial chest.
