Al Davis has been one of the most influential figures in football history. What he has done for the league in the past 50+ years has been nothing short of legendary.
When he joined the Raiders in 1963, he took over a hapless franchise and turned them into perennial winners. He was named Coach of the Year in his first year in the league.
He later went on to become commissioner of the AFL — spearheading efforts to get the AFL and NFL to compete against one another.
After accomplishing that, he went back to the Raiders to win three Super Bowls.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992.
RIP.
