6-2. Not too bad. If I was a gambling man, I would be pretty happy with this.
My prediction was off by two points in the Syracuse/Vermont game. 81-56 was my prediction, 79-56 was the actual score, and my Kansas State/North Texas prediction was 81-60, actual score 82-62. Not gonna say that I’m a genius, but I’m pretty close.
As for the 2nd round
Syracuse vs. Gonzaga
Syracuse is just too balanced of a team to be knocked out this early in the tournament, even though Gonzaga looked impressive in their win over Florida State (as predicted). If Gonzaga can hit some outside shots, this could be a really close game, but I don’t they will have enough.
Winner – Syracuse 77-70
Butler vs. Murray State
My first mistake of the tournament was underestimating how good of a team Murray State is. Well I’m doing it again. Horizon League represent.
Winner – Butler 69-58
Xavier vs. Pittsburgh
My second mistake of the tournament (actually more like my 5th) was going against Xavier. The way Minnesota played in the Big 10 tournament, I just thought they would have more in them. Crawford is a beast for Xavier, but Pitt will be able to contain him enough to get a win.
Winner – Pitt 82-75
Kansas State vs. BYU
Kansas State is good. I actually wish I could have watched them more in the regular season, so I would have realized just how good of a team they are. The Big East was pretty solid in the first round of the tourney, so I expect them to continue to do well.
Winner – Kansas State 80-68
